Living in southern New England presents some of the finest sailing anywhere. The village of Noank, located in southeast Connecticut, at the mouth of the Mistic River, presents some especially great boating opportunities. Fishers Island, about 2 miles south of Noank, and about 7 miles long, provides sheltered waters for great daysailing, fishing, and picnics. Moonshadow sails from Spicer's Marina, located in West Cove, on the west shore of Noank.
Noank is a small, quiet village with a history rooted in fishing. Historic homes and buildings provide some of the most picturesque scenery that southern New England has to offer. Today, the shipyards cater to recreational boaters, but the boats and docks of the local lobstermen add a charm to the area. As you sail past Mouse Island with its three small cottages and look back at Morgan Point and the Mistic River, you will see the beautiful Morgan Point Light House. You are now in Fishers Island Sound, and any way you should decide to go, you are in store for some great sailing. I like to head southeast for Napatree or Block Island. Southwest will take you by the Dumpling Islands on your way to Shelter Island, Montauk, and other great destinations on Long Island's north and south forks.
