Many call Block Island the bermuda of the north, and is one of our favorite destinations. It features a rural lifestyle with beautiful beaches, historic buildings and exceptional views. It has two very busy harbors that see large crowds in the summer season. Ferries from New London, CT and Point Judith RI run all summer long adding to the seasonal population boom around these harbors. These areas adjacent to the marinas are very active with large crowds, restaurants, shops, and such, but a short walk in in any direction away from these centers will get you into the beautiful rural settings.
New Harbor, located in the Great Salt Pond is a beautiful achorage with good sandy bottom. The town has moorings available but these rent out quickly in prime season. The relatively shallow salt pond warms up nicely for swimming in the summer. Restuarants at the Marina's are a short dingy ride away. Aldo's Bakery runs a launch through the anchorage about 8:00 each morning delivering fresh pastrys and coffee. See the links below for more Info.
